FFDP debut album, Way of the fist, (released 2007) was a total knockout to me.They delivered high quality modern metal hardcore right in my face. The singer Ivan Moody really impressed me with the vocals of his range from angry thrash style to surprisingly smooth melodic vocals and Zoltan Bathory`s guitarplaying delivered some awesome and technical guitar riffs. To me this album was a 5 out 5 and I still like it very much.So I was a bit nervous about their new record War is the answer, thinking no way that they could deliver such a great album again. Luckily I was wrong !
War is the answer got all that we were given on their first album and more. The opening track "Dying Breed" is a punch directly in the listener's face, exactly like "Ashes" was on the first album. And even if they still sound a lot like they did before I think that they have put some more effort on beingmelodic on this one. Just listen to the great instrumental song "Canto 34" and you will se what I mean.
In more hard melodic rock songs like "Far From Home" and "Walk Away" Ivan Moody sings with clean vocals instead of screaming and does it very well. And on the faster songs, like "No one gets left behind" and "War is the answer" FFDP really shows that they got what it takes to make you feel like you kissed a freight train. It is true metal hardcore at its finest.
Finally I can say that all songs on this album still retains the sound that makes FFDP so special, the vocals and the guitar melodies holds very high quality again and makes their second album just as great as the first one.So if you are in to modern metal hardcore with a lot of melodic elements buy this album and start headbanging, this is, in my opinion, as great as it can be !
By the way, the band began to record their third studio album in November 2010 and has a tentative release date for August 2011 and it will contain at least 14 tracks and I am really looking forward to that album and to hopefully say that I was wrong again...
