Funeral For A Friend To Release New Ep This Year
|
|

“Were very proud to announce the title and tracklisting of our forthcoming EP, plus reveal the front cover artwork. The name of the EP is THE YOUNG AND DEFENCELESS and it pretty much sums up the way the world is going: blind ignorance and a lot of too little too late. These songs are a call to arms, a ‘fuck you’ in the face of those who dare sit on their asses and watch everything around them turn to shit. There’s a lot of attitude and a lot of anger and it shows, not just in the amazing artwork by our friend Rianne Rowlands who has pulled out all the stops with her incredible art, but in these 4 ass kicking songs. If you like aggression then you’ve got it, if you like heart on your sleeve emotional power then you’ve got that too. This is just the start, there’s more to come just over that horizon. FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND – THE YOUNG AND DEFENCELESS 1. Serpents in Solitude 2. Sixteen 3. Damned If You Do, Dead If You Don’t 4. Vultures Previously revealed exclusively only to those who had pledged as part of the project at www.pledgemusic.com/projects/funeralforafriend, we’re now happy to be able to share it with everyone. We can’t wait for you to hear it. Last chance to get involved with the EP – get yourself a signed Casually Dressed CD gold disc with your name engraved on it! If you’ve already pledged and reserved your copy of ‘The Young And Defenceless’ you’ll already know that there isn’t long left to get involved. We recently added a new sweet opportunity to get a your own Casually Dressed CD gold disc, personalised to you and signed by the band. These are limited though, so if you you want to get your hands on one you’d better hurry. Both the EP and the gold disc, plus a ton of other goodies are available right now only at www.pledgemusic.com/projects/funeralforafriend.”

Hello Pledgers! First of all I would like to thank you all for making this exciting solo project possible. Your support has been truly incredible, and since being in the studio I haven’t been able to stop writing and working on the new songs. Its going so well that I’ve written way more than I expected! So as well as an exclusive mini-album just for you guys which I expect to be mixed, mastered, and ready for delivery by the end of October, I’m going to keep working on some of the songs I’ve written and hopefully end up with a full length album by the end of the year! Bono States U2 Ready To Release 30 New Songs

The Next Album – or Albums The tour is now less about the last album and more about your continuing history – the songs you played in Turin from deep in your catalog; the new material. That in-the-round spectacle has become more fluid, allowing you to do something more than amaze. The idea was to make the crowd the spectacle – for us to be in the middle of this community and be able to play a new song if we want. People actually see it happening, because there is nothing else on stage. You can't hide. So now is the throwdown: "Oh, really? Let's see you play some new songs. How about three?" Sure, people can say, ""Oh, I didn't think that was any good." But if I was a U2 fan, that's what I would want. I would want to watch a new song develop. We may discover it's not what we thought it was, and it may never see the light of day. But we've got a lot more songs to play. How many? We have Songs of Ascent, which is the meditative work that was meant to complement No Line on the Horizon. We've got a rock album. We also have a club-sounding album. And then we have the Spider-Man [musical] stuff. Across those four, there are 25-30 songs. Now we have to decide how we go about releasing them? Do we release them in their groups? Chris Martin [of Coldplay] called me and said, "I hear you've got all these albums going. I have a great idea. Why not just pick the best songs from all of them and put them out now?" And I'm like, "Hmm . . . " [Strokes his chin]. Because we don't think like that. It's a bit mad. In that sense, we're not as 21st Century as we think we are, because we'd be putting out more new songs online, involving our audience in the choice – if we were really modern. We're just sitting here arguing about them, except no one else knows about them. The people on the beach here probably know them, because we keep playing them, like we did last night [smiles]. How much do you see the show changing when you come back to North America next summer, to play the rescheduled shows? That's going to be great. We'll maybe have a new album – I think we probably will. So it's kind of wonderful. Those people are going to have tickets to a whole new show with new songs. It's going to be very exciting next year.

THE ORB AND DAVID GILMOUR TO RELEASE “METALLIC SPHERES” ON OCTOBER 12 VIA COLUMBIA RECORDS For immediate release – Columbia Records will release Metallic Spheres by The Orb featuring David Gilmour on Tuesday, October 12, 2010. The Orb, the visionary UK ‘ambient/house’ collective, came to collaborate with David Gilmour after working together on a version of Graham Nash’s “Chicago” for a charity project. Youth (aka Martin Glover), a frequent Orb accomplice, was invited to create a remix, and he and Alex Paterson, as The Orb, were so energized by the task that they continued working until it was an album-length entity. Having asked Gilmour to bring his guitars to Youth’s studio in South London to prolong and enrich their new creation, the trio worked up a sonic mixture in a range of styles. Thus, the Metallic Spheres project was born. Metallic Spheresis designed to be heard in two parts - ‘Metallic Side’ (24’48”), and ‘Spheres Side’ (25’09”). Each track, or side, consists of five movements. The album uniquely utilizes David Gilmour’s discernable electric guitar and lap steel guitar, Alex Paterson’s sound manipulation, keyboards and turntables, and Youth’s bass guitar and keyboards. Metallic Spheres will be available in 3 formats: standard and 2-disc deluxe versions on CD, digital download and 180-gram vinyl. The deluxe 2-CD version includes an extra disc, featuring the new ‘3D60™’ process, which allows a 360-degree sound experience on stereo tracks without any special equipment. Please see below for more details. Moreover, the album is currently available for pre-order at Amazon.com. Longtime Orb collaborator Simon Ghahary has created artwork, continuing and expanding on The Orb’s spatial art style. Additionally, special laser light shows created specifically for the release of Metallic Spheres will be shown to the public in early October in New York and Los Angeles. More details to follow. The Orb’s Alex Paterson says, "It's a collision that's been waiting to happen with Pink Floyd / David Gilmour and The Orb orbiting many of the same planets." The Orb, built around mainstay Alex Paterson, formed in London in 1989 during the birth of the rave movement. Initially founded on a mutual love of Brian Eno and German electronics, The Orb at present operates with a flexible line-up of collaborators that includes producer / multi-instrumentalist Youth, well-known for his work with Paul McCartney as The Fireman, as well as his production (Crowded House, Dido) and remixes (U2, Marilyn Manson). David Gilmour is the legendary singer, guitarist and songwriter with Pink Floyd, whose most recent solo album ‘On An Island’ charted at No. 1 in the UK & Europe and No.6 in the USA. Information about the 3D60TM process: The album will also be available selectively as a ‘Deluxe’ edition: a 2-CD version including an extra CD featuring a different mix, in the ‘3D60™’ process, which allows a 360-degree sound experience on stereo tracks without any special equipment. 3D60™ is a new sound production process created specially to deliver an immersive, widescreen listening experience via headphones. Unlike conventional surround sound based on multi-positioned loudspeakers, 3D60™ gives unlimited spatial audio with sounds coming from all around (in front, behind, at different heights and even from overhead or below) in an ordinary stereo set up – no special equipment required, other than a pair of headphones. Listening in 3D60™ takes sound on from ordinary stereo into new dimensions of height and space - a three dimensional world of 360 degree surround sound. Developed by The Jam's live sound engineer and music video director Mike Brady, musician and multimedia producer Ian Thompson, and internationally renowned music producer Youth, 3D60™ sounds amazing on any headphones with any playback format.
