Now what is this? a crappy album cover and the EP opens with a cover of Tommy Tutone's classic hit "867-5309". Woah, I was expecting the worst of the worst. But never judge the book by it's cover as the saying goes and it goes for album covers as well, the Chicago based Prozac Daisies doesn't have the best band name on Earth but they're really good performers and also interesting songwriters.

Their new EP "Krazzy" contains 4 original songs and a rocking cover of "867-5309", their sound can be described as King's X in a Eleanor Rigby mood mainly because of Michelle Tess Oberlin that is the band's cellist. Yeah, I kinda like this alternative hard rock with Cello all over. Their version of the Tommy Tutone hit is very good and the following "Khalifornia" shows the band are strong songwriters as well, the 3rd track "Don't give up on me" is laid back and melodic and fits nicely into the mix of the hard rocking stuff. The 4th track "Superstitions" is more funky and groovy, once again my thoughts go to King's X just like the last track "Krazzy" where the verse is stronger than the chorus. Best track is "Khalifornia". Thumbs up!

Seattle based Curtains For You takes the listener for a roller coaster ride in the world of British 60's pop, indie rock and harmony filled powerpop. Their 2nd album "What a lovely surprise to wake up here" is a pleasant musical trip that bring thoughts to The Beach Boys, The Beatles and even Jason Falkner. The songs "Nuclear age", "Licorice skies" and "Roadtrip to disaster" stand out, I prefer their powerpop side to the indie rock moments that show up once in a while. Thumbs up for the lovely vocal harmonies.

If there's one thing I love, that's a Live DVD of a band. I was lucky enough to have received a copy of this in the mail the other day. That being said, I am happy that I will not have to get to a Creed concert in order to get this DVD. Alter Bridge's live DVD was recorded on July 12, 2008 at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam This is a solid DVD that has been put together with almost the band's entire catalog of songs spanning their short but good career thus far. Myles Kennedy's vocals sound gret on the DVD, as I was worried about some of those high notes he hits on the albums. The tones on the album and the musicianship the band displays is so much more powerful than Creed. Basically all the songs on from thier first two albums are included with my personal favorites "Broken Wings" and "In Loving Memory Of." The powerhouse guitars that both Tremonti and Kennedy show together is definitely an addition that I think Creed took on from this band.

I will have to say that i was more of a fan of the debut album than the "Blackbird," although i did liek the new one, I think it lacks the single material and hooks that the first had. The DVD was recorded late into the band's 2007-2008 Blackbird tour, but Alter Bridge had originally decided to film it at the Brixton Academy in London. However, scheduling conflicts and other issues had caused the band to only use a small amount of cameras during the Brixton concert. The DVD was later re-shot in Amsterdam with a total of 22 cameras to get various shots and camera angles. The DVD was produced by Dan Catullo, who had previously worked with the likes of Nickelback, Ra, Godsmack, and the Smashing Pumpkins. The bands performance is top notch and the quality and clarity are great. Gotta love new DVD's and enhancements these days. Crystal clear sound and great lighting. Later in the DVD you will see "Traveling Riverside Blues" (Robert Johnson cover) as its a great addition to the set. "Watch Over You" (acoustic version) really shows of the powerful vocals Kennedy has. Hope to see these guys with new material soon, although with the Creed reunion not sure how likely that is. Kennedy is set to release a solo album of material in the near future, so keep an eye out for that. Hopefully the boys will make a great deal of money on the Creed reunion tour to bust out another Alter Bridge album in the near future.

Behind W.E.T. you will find two of the Swedish best AOR/MHR songwriters right now named Robert Sall (Work Of Art), Erik Martensson (Eclipse) and they have joined heads with first class singer Jeff Scott Soto that don’t need any bigger introduction. So W.E.T. stands for Work Of Art, Eclipse and Talisman. This is an absolutely brilliant AOR/MHR album and if you take the best parts from the mentioned bands then you got W.E.T. You can also throw in some Journey influences and that may not be so strange because of Jeff’s short time in that classic AOR-band. This is an album that has it all from a top-notch production to outstanding memorable songs with brilliant choruses that hooks you up right away. You don’t have to play this album a couple of time before you're into it, no I was already hooked earlier this year when I heard One Love. I will come to that song later.

The album opens up with Invincible that opens up with heavy riffs but turns into a wet dream for lovers of melodic AOR. The chorus is huge with lovely keyboards and the choirs are powerful, what a start of the album. One Love is next and this is pure magic and it sounds like The Rasmus goes AOR and meets Talisman and Eclipse on a dead end street. The chorus is nothing but pure magic and Jeff sings his heart out and I haven’t heard him this hungry for sometime.

The ballad Come Down Like Rain is stunning and the 2nd chorus lifts up this song even more with impressive harmony vocals. Running From The Heartache has some Giant vibes in it with great riffs, strong melodies and a chorus that knocks you down. I’ll Be There rocks big time with cool arrangements and the sounds is nothing but sensational. Damage Is Done sounds like a Talisman song. Another personal favourite song is Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is. This is an awesome up-tempo rocker with American party feel over it and pounding drums with a sing-a-long chorus that will sound huge live.

Just Go is a great rocker in the best Eclipse style. The album ends with two songs that made me think of Journey and maybe it would have sounded like this if Jeff have had the chance to do an album with them. The songs I’m talking about are My Everything, an awesome up-tempo rocker and the ballad If I Fall are two magical songs. W.E.T. has done of the better albums of this year if not the best because this has it all that we melodic freaks want. This is an album I recommend highly and you won’t get much better AOR/MHR albums that this. Thanks guys for making this absolutely brilliant album that will warm up the winter cold.

The LaBlanc brothers are back with the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut 4 years ago. Falling From The Moon is even better than the debut and if you're into pink and fluffy keyboards with fantastic melodies and strong soundtrack AOR-hooks , then this is a must for you. They have come up with a brilliant 80s sounding album in the same vein as Survivor, Pride Of Lions and Glass Tiger’s Simple Mission. Singer Robbie LaBlanc sings stunning on the album and I can’t help myself to think about Alan Frew of Glass Tiger. The album opens up just amazing with I Come Alive and Falling From The Moon that are true classic AOR-songs with layers of keyboards and awesome hooklines. I Swear To You is a winner with wonderful melodies and the chorus is superb. Now you might wonder if the album holds the same quality throughout the whole album?

Yes, the brothers has written AOR by numbers through the whole album. They have managed to mix wonderful ballads with strong AOR-rockers just perfect and I have listened to this album over and over these past weeks together with W.E.T. Everything is a huge Survivor sounding ballad with lovely string arrangements. Light Of The World smells Glass Tiger for miles and this is great mid-tempo rocker with a great piano sound in the background. The chorus on I Will is fantastic with great melodies and Robbie sings amazing with great feeling. This is a safe buy for every AOR-fan out there and if you’re a sucker for 80s keyboard oriented AOR then get your money ready.

Damn good album with first class production.

Sometimes you stumble upon bands more or less by accident and you get completely blown away. That was what happened to me when I was treated to the song "Shark! Shark! Shark!" by the Swedish band Adept. In that song I could hear traces of two of my favorite bands, Blindside and Funeral For a Friend. Blindside is perhaps a more accurate comparison as there are a lot of screaming on this album. From the first to last track they put the pedal down and do not let up until the album finishes.

I cannot help but compare this album to Blindside's brilliant album Silence although the tempo is a bit higher on this one. I like the parts on this album when they do the duo vocals, one screaming and one singing. That reminds me a bit of what Sonic Syndicate are doing. I also like when they bring down the tempo and bring out the background singers, I almost get some New Found Glory-vibes on some parts of "Caution! Boys Night Out!" and "Grow Up, Peter Pan".

This might be the best Swedish album so far this year. The production is also top notch, clean and crisp. I can hear traces of Swedish in the voice of Robert Ljung but that is a minor flaw and I am sure that will get polished off as time goes by. I can only wish there were more songs on the album, instead of just ten. Nonetheless, I predict a bright future for Adept. This is a very nice start to a hopefully brilliant career.

Fans of above mentioned band as well as Story of the Year: If you let this album pass you by, you will and should be sorry.

Cyrenic is the brainchild of Brian Zuckerman, he wrote, recorded and produced the songs on this album. Here we are treated to a bunch of atmospheric rock songs with an industrial, almost gothic influence. There are a lot of pianos in these songs and the sound actually reminds me of Paradise Lost's record One Second in some songs. There are also hints of bands like Skillet and Breaking Benjamin in the music of Cyrenic.

The best songs on here according to me are the slower songs. This is where Zuckerman's voice gets enough space to shine. I feel that his voice drowns out when there are too many layers and effects in the music and that is a shame because on songs like "To Have and To Hold" it really shines. There are however too few song where that happens. Opening "Lullaby" is another one and I like how that song starts off slowly just to build up into a full on rock song. That structure has been used before but I still like it for that song.

Apart from the things mentioned above, I feel that the production is not as good as it could have been. It is not bad, it just feels independently produced. Still, check this album out if you want some cool riffs and some interesting music that is a bit different to what you hear on the radio. It is a pretty good album after all!

When a band comes from Norway and play atmospheric pop, it's quite easy to compare them with A-ha but I won't, the new pop sensation Donkeyboy has a sound that is irresistable with traces of Keane, Freiheit, Secret Service and even Jon Anderson/Vangelis. The single "Sometimes" can be streamed on myspace but there are other beautiful pop anthems on this album like the title track "Caught in a life" and the opener "Stereolife". I love this!

Kimberley Dahme was born in San Pablo California and became the first female band member for Boston when they released their Corporate America album. Now she has released her first solo album that is more country rock than AOR and must be the first country feel album that Escape has released. This is album is too laid back for my taste and I miss some real rockers to lift up the album. This leans more into Sarah McLachlan kind of country with Sheryl Crow influences. Kimberley has a nice and strong voice that makes some of the songs a joy to listen to but in the long run this gets boring. The two first songs Can’t A Girl Change Her Mind and Rock You Like A Baby are ok songs. The Shania Twain smelling piano ballad The Only Man is good. Tom Scholz and Gary Phil of Boston helps her out on this album. So if you're into Nashville female country stuff then this might be your cup of tea.

It looks like many of the old rock heroes have made their best album in decades this latest year with AC/DC-Black Ice, Europe-Last look at Eden, Simple Minds-Graffiti soul and Kiss-Sonic Boom. We can now add Bon Jovi-The circle to that list because their new album is their strongest effort since "New Jersey" in the late 80's. They have truly gone full circle on their new album which is a huge rock album filled with plenty of new Bon Jovi classics, the new single "When we were beautiful" is outstanding and other grandiose stadium rockers like "Superman tonight" and "Broken promised land" will be on every Bon Jovi fan's lips this winter. Nothing is better than when music puts a big smile on your face and in this case, "The circle" makes me feel all warm inside.
