I just picked this CD up at best buy. I am a huge Scooter Ward fan. I knew going into this that it was NOT a Cold album. This is a different band and was more experimental. That being said I love this album. It grows on you. The lyrics are amazing and I get the Chills on some songs. Anyone that tries to compare this to COLD will be dissapointed. If Scooter wanted this to sound like Cold he would have just named it COLD =)
This album has an original sound unlike anything else out there, which is very refreshing!
5/5

A very refreshing band, and an original one. The band is tight. Very tight, the musicianship is that of a band that has played for years. The singer has quite the range and shows it in every song. This is a band for musicians. Although not all the songs are memorable, they unique twists on them make up for it. The lyrics are solid and the sound is tight. This is a very good band.

Although short and not full of new material, it's great to see a young band show their diversity so soon.

Commercial nothing. These guys are the best metal band in a long time. They have pure energy and raw talent. The ignore what has become the biggest nuisance in heavy music, they don't scream every two seconds. They do use background screams but only when appropriate (EVERY OTHER BAND NEEDS TO DO THE SAME, NOW!). Every member of this band is top notch and avoids the same formula most modern bands do (shredding, double bass pedals being used so much you want to tear off the kit etc.). The songs do also embody another factor most bands don't. Genuine passion. The vocals hit you and you have no trouble believing they mean every word of it. The guitar tone is beautiful and leaves me envious (although I would have loved to hear a few solos, it's not a big complaint). The bands only flaw is it's repetitive lyrical themes. All in all this is one of the most original and exciting bands in a long long time.

While this album has it's flaws, it has it's goods as well. The major flaw as exaggerated in the site's review is the production value. While listenable the songs do sound constrained but that isn't really the band's fault seeing as they couldn't afford much else. And Tyson Yen's voice suffers the most from this. It's bad enough he has a language barrier but he also sounds muted. The band's range is very well presented on the album as the songs are varying in structure. But once again great songs come second leaving this album a refreshing disappointment.

I personally think this album is great. Almost every song (with the exception of "Dual Enemy" and the opener and closer) is a strong song that could easily become a hit single. And that's not to say that their generic. Far from it. I've yet to hear a band that sounds remotely similar to this band. I'm not hearing Breaking Benjamin at all. The guitar work is impressive but random, and it usually just drags a song down rather than lift it up (I'm looking at you "The Scalpel"). The only other drawback is the seemingly pointless "Red Decibel Communion" and "Before the Blackouts." All in all it's a good example of what modern rock should start doing more often and that's creating music with energy and less pouting.
