King?s X drummer Jerry Gaskill?s first solo album is out in the stores, when Ty Tabor and Doug Pinnick have been involved in other projects or did their own solo albums-Jerry has been working on his own songs that finally ended up on this record titled "Come Somewhere".
King?s X is one of this world?s greatest bands of all time in my opinion but when it comes to side projects and solo stuff-they just don?t make it all the way.....it usually ends up in 3-4 great songs by their normal standard and the rest is either too varied or monotone.
I?m a huge fan of this band and really welcome Jerry?s solo album,he?s a great background vocalist and a superb drummer but is he a lead vocalist?....hrm,not really because even if he sounds a bit like John Lennon sometimes, his voice doesn?t hold up the way a lead singer should.
Jerry has had help from his friend and bandmember Ty Tabor with the production, most of the electric guitars and the bass but Jerry plays
most of the acoustic guitars, all vocals and drums ofcourse.
"Come Somewhere" sounds a bit like if John Lennon would have written songs with Jimmy Page and then let King?s X perform them,Jerry?s album really has that typical King?s X (early years) sound so every fan of this band will be satisfied coz compared to Ty?s and Doug?s sideprojects and solo albums-Jerry Gaskill has done the best one but overall,it doesn?t match the classic albums from their band King?s X.
A good album containing 15 songs with a running time of 47 minutes, short songs as you see but it?s no masterpiece-just satisfying.
