Reviewed by: Kaj Roth Add to MySpace Add to Facebook As a live band,Dead Soul Tribe is a quartet but in the studio,it?s just one man who?s singing,producing and playing all the instruments except drums on 3 tracks. His name is Devon Graves and takes influences from alternative metal bands with progressive vibes like A Perfect Circle,I Mother Earth and Tool,"The January Tree" is the 3rd album in 3 years so he?s quite a creative songwriter and musician. The music is very moody,dark,heavy and not so keyboard oriented so DST doesn?t feel as progressive I Mother Earth but the similarities are there. It?s a fine production,clear and huge but without losing the heavy structure.I especially like the sound of the drums and the bass - a true joy for the ears! The songs are really good and keeps me interested throughout the whole album,this is the kinda music you learn to love.....no song will go right into your heart the first time you hear it but let the album spin 3-4 times and you?ll understand that DST makes album music.
