In 2005, we were introduced to the band The Drama Club. Lead by vocalist Nick Coyle from the defunct band Lifer. The rest of the group from Lifer went on to joining Ben Burnley and are now a band called Breaking Benjamin as you may already know. The Drama Club released their independent 6-song EP entitled "Greatest Hits" and made waved in the indie scene and gained great exposure with some really awesome tunes.
Now they are back with another great 5 song EP release showing us their growth as musicans and way better songs. With production this time from Rob Caggiano (Jesse Malin/ Anthrax) and mixed by Jay Baumgardner (Evanescence/Papa Roach/Godsmack) the band shows us a more real rock side and displays their rock energy.
Actually the early demo of "Brand New Day" that was featured on their Purevolume page about a year or so ago was my favorite of their early band material. Its awesome to see this song back and in really good shape re-recorded. This song has been redone on the album in a more rocker version and well, just better. The flow is really great this time and you can now tell the demo version from the actual studio version. The new version of this song features vocals by Ben Burnley from Breaking Benjamin. Its great to see these guys working together being a huge fan of Lifer and Breaking Benjamin. What a cool duo. Their voices really mix very well together.
You can hear the first track on the EP called "November" on the bands Myspace that gives you a little (not the best) taste of what the EP has to offer. "Company For The Lonely" is my other favorite. This song has a driving verse and a kick in chorus thats so melodic the vocals just soar and are very smooth to the ears.
Like I said before the growth they show should make them a top prospect for major labels. After hearing this EP, I am really excited for a full length from this band. Any label should snag these guys, who already established a regional following in the N.E.. The band has continued to build a loyal following via shows with Breaking Benjamin, Flyleaf, 3 Doors Down, Sound The Alarm, Velvet Revolver, Silvertide, and on The Vans Warped tour 2006 (Montage Mountain/Scranton, PA).
