It’s nice to see that some countries manage to deliver good music from the Idol tv-show.
The Idol show in Sweden has few talents compared to US with great rock acts like Daughtry, Marty Casey and now Jon Peter Lewis.
The now 28 year old Jon Peter Lewis was in the show five years ago and made it to 8th round and got strong fan following after some great vocal performances. And instead of using his Idol fame and make a pop record Lewis decided to work on his own musical style and create original music.

A good choice ofcourse since this new album “Break the Silence” is a nice experience if you’re into catchy pop/rock with singer songwriter moments. So it’s not close to Daughtry and Casey with a typical rock sound, no this is more like Matt Nathanson with a clearer pop attitude on his way to Gran Bel Fisher.

The album starts off in a great way with the uptempo rockers “Break The Silence”, “Now That I'm Kneeling” and ”Beautiful”, three great tracks that could have been written by Swedish songwriter giants Max Martin or Andreas Carlsson with a distinct hit message.
But those are the only tunes with that sound and that is a little bit confusing. The majority of the album is more laidback and traditional singer songwriter rock.
Sure there are great moments as in “If you don’t mean it” with potential, but after a very promising start it feels like he really doesn’t know where to stand.

The album contains 14 tracks and that’s two, three too many in my opinion and with a better mix of tunes here, I might have had a different opinion. Now it feels too shattered, but we got a handful of great tunes and that isn’t bad at all. In fact, Jon Peter Lewis has made a really good album to be proud of compared to some of his earlier friends in Idol.

-Since purchasing Break the Silence, I haven’t listened to much of anything else. The lyrics are meaningful and the tunes are catchy. There are very few albums where I can honestly say that I love each track. This is one of the few. I would definitely recommend this album as well as Jon's debut, Stories from Hollywood.

-Lucky for me I'm into catchy pop/rock with singer songwriter moments! LOL! I bought and really like "Break the Silence," including the tracks you spotlighted - but I love some of the others you dismiss just as well, especially the lovely singer songwriter styled tune "Tonight." I find this album to possess a wonderful maturity, both lyrically and musically, that really clicks with Jon's voice.

-Hey man, don't bury the lede! You said it eventually; this is a good album. In fact, one of the more enjoyable pop albums I've heard in recent years. Jon's voice and phrasing bring an emotive value to every track that's missing in most of modern pop rock. He's a natural storyteller; in the end, this quality brings the album together and makes it worth buying. "Break the Silence" manages to spotlight the talent of a great singer, with nicely minimalist embellishment, and that's a thing of beauty to me.

Breaking Benjamin derived their name from an incident when singer Benjamin Burnley was covering a Nirvana song during an open mic night at a club when he dropped the microphone to the ground, breaking it.
