If there's one thing I love, that's a Live DVD of a band. I was lucky enough to have received a copy of this in the mail the other day. That being said, I am happy that I will not have to get to a Creed concert in order to get this DVD. Alter Bridge's live DVD was recorded on July 12, 2008 at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam This is a solid DVD that has been put together with almost the band's entire catalog of songs spanning their short but good career thus far. Myles Kennedy's vocals sound gret on the DVD, as I was worried about some of those high notes he hits on the albums. The tones on the album and the musicianship the band displays is so much more powerful than Creed. Basically all the songs on from thier first two albums are included with my personal favorites "Broken Wings" and "In Loving Memory Of." The powerhouse guitars that both Tremonti and Kennedy show together is definitely an addition that I think Creed took on from this band.
I will have to say that i was more of a fan of the debut album than the "Blackbird," although i did liek the new one, I think it lacks the single material and hooks that the first had. The DVD was recorded late into the band's 2007-2008 Blackbird tour, but Alter Bridge had originally decided to film it at the Brixton Academy in London. However, scheduling conflicts and other issues had caused the band to only use a small amount of cameras during the Brixton concert. The DVD was later re-shot in Amsterdam with a total of 22 cameras to get various shots and camera angles. The DVD was produced by Dan Catullo, who had previously worked with the likes of Nickelback, Ra, Godsmack, and the Smashing Pumpkins. The bands performance is top notch and the quality and clarity are great. Gotta love new DVD's and enhancements these days. Crystal clear sound and great lighting. Later in the DVD you will see "Traveling Riverside Blues" (Robert Johnson cover) as its a great addition to the set. "Watch Over You" (acoustic version) really shows of the powerful vocals Kennedy has. Hope to see these guys with new material soon, although with the Creed reunion not sure how likely that is. Kennedy is set to release a solo album of material in the near future, so keep an eye out for that. Hopefully the boys will make a great deal of money on the Creed reunion tour to bust out another Alter Bridge album in the near future.
